New Mexico Thirteenth Judicial District Court, Division VII
Background
Christopher G. Perez (also referred to as Chris G. Perez) is a district court judge in Division VII of the New Mexico Thirteenth Judicial District Court, based in Bernalillo, Sandoval County. He presides over general jurisdiction cases, including criminal, civil, family, and domestic matters. He also oversees the Sandoval County Mental Health Court.
Prior Experience
Perez has more than 23 years of experience as a private attorney in Bernalillo, his hometown. He represented both plaintiffs and defendants in civil and criminal matters.
Appointment & Current Role
A Democrat, he was appointed to the bench by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham on February 28, 2020.
In 2023, he presided over an effort by John Veltri to recall Sandoval County Commissioner Katherine Bruch. After a hearing, he ruled there was no probable cause to allow the recall petition to proceed. He found that the allegations of malfeasance and misfeasance did not meet statutory standards.
